Community Service

Meals on Wheels Each year The Woodlands Chapter families and friends deliver 700 hot and frozen meals to 120 homebound residents over 13 local routes for Meal on Wheels of Montgomery County, Texas. This was our 22nd year of service to this worthwhile community effort. The chapter members and prospective members meet at the Friendship Center at 2235 Lake Robbins Drive in The Woodlands. This year our MOW annual delivery took place on Wednesday, November 22, 2017. Mardi Gras Brunch The Woodlands Chapter has the privilege of hosting the 4th Annual Foundation Mardi Gras Jazz Brunch. The Mardi Gras Brunch will be held February 24, 2018 at The Woodlands Westin Hotel. This signature Foundation event provides educational scholarships to High School seniors in the Montgomery County area, as well as, investing in programs and services that create a strong foundation for children to thrive long-term. The event will also support opportunities for children to develop leadership skills, embrace cultural diversity, explore environmental awareness, and instill financial literacy and civic/ community service. We are happy to be supporting Love Fosters Hope for the second year. Hurricane Harvey The South Charlotte North Carolina Chapter of Jack and Jill forwarded gift bags to The Woodlands Chapter of Jack and Jill to be distributed to the children of Houston who were impacted by Hurricane Harvey. The South Charlotte Chapter’s children (3rd-5th graders) not only wrapped packages (which included a book, a toy, or crayons, And a set of brand new pajamas) but also placed handwritten notes of encouragement for each future recipient. These gifts were donated to local foster children who suffered as a result of Hurricane Harvey. As a coalition effort, The Woodlands Chapter of Jack and Jill presented the gift bags through Love Fosters Hope. Cindy Mericle, Love Fosters Hope Executive Director, coordinated the Chapter’s distribution effort and assisted with presenting these gifts to the Program Director of Child Protected Services (CPS), Lisa Fischer. Ms. Fischer oversees four Regions including Montgomery County. March of Dimes The Woodlands Chapter is thrilled to embark on its 5th year of community partnership with the March of Dimes. Premature births in the African-American community speak to the demographic in which Jack and Jill seeks to empower. It also speaks to our desire to not only impact our own children, but all children. The Woodlands Chapter hosts an annual chapter fundraising campaign for the March of Dimes’ March for Babies Walk that will take place on April 14, 2018 at the Woodlands Church at Fellowship Campus in The Woodlands, Texas. This local walk is the precursor to the much larger walk in the city of Houston as it provides a more intimate and hands-on opportunity to provide support and encouragement to families who are faced with babies born prematurely in the Spring and the greater Montgomery County areas. The Woodlands Chapter will begin fundraising for the 2018 event in November of 2017 with the plan to exceed the contribution of last year which was in excess of $7,500. This amount earned The Woodlands Chapter, for the third consecutive year, the honor of being recognized as the leader among all South Central Region chapters in collecting pledges and donations for this worthy national initiative. Through the chapter’s efforts, the March of Dimes will utilize these funds to help support the African-American community and those families who are affected by premature births. The March for Babies Walk is an event in which the entire family is invited to participate. The walk’s festivities begin with a kick-off pep rally that is held on the eve of the walk at a local Woodlands restaurant. A portion of the food purchased goes towards the fundraising efforts for the March of Dimes. Face painting, bounce houses, and music are en-joyed by children of all ages as they are taught of the history and significance of the March of Dimes. Entire family units, including both Jack and Jill and non-Jack and Jill members, meet on the morning of the walk in support of the Woodlands Chapter’s efforts to bring attention to the efforts of the March of Dimes. Participant walkers walk a 2.5 mile pre-determined course that begins at 9am and ends at their leisure at the designated finish line.
